The population of Edmonton will grow from about 900,000 in 2015 to roughly 1,325,000 in 2040 (source, page 40). If we project our current trip distribution onto the population in 2040, we’ll have about 4.62 million trips per weekday in 2040, about 1 million of which will be walk/bike/transit in the business-as-usual scenario. To achieve our climate goals, though, we need 2.3 million of those weekday trips to be walk, bike, or transit trips.
